ISRO launches Chandrayaan 3 Moon mission from Sriharikota

On Friday, July 14th, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched Chandrayaan 3 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 2.35 pm IST. The launch was streamed live official website, YouTube channel, and Doordarshan channel, starting from 2 pm IST onwards.

According to The Hindu, at the end of the 25.30-hour countdown, the LVM3-M4 rocket, the largest and heaviest in its class and dubbed as ‘Fat Boy’, lifted off majestically at a prefixed time at 2.35 p.m. from the second launch pad, discharging thick plumes of smoke.

The countdown for Chandrayaan 3 mission began yesterday, 26-hour countdown to start at 1:05 pm on 13 July.

The main objectives for the Chandrayaan-3 mission set by ISRO are, Getting a lander safe and soft landing on the surface of the Moon and observing and demonstrating the rover’s loitering capabilities on the Moon.

Scientific observation and making scientific experiments on the chemical and natural elements, soil, water, etc. Available on the surface of the Moon to better understand and practice the composition of the Moon. Interplanetary refers to developing and demonstrating new technologies required for missions between two planets.

Chandrayaan-3 will soft-land on the surface of the Moon. It will be the second attempt after ISRO failed with the Chandrayaan-2 mission 4 years ago.

The mission is expected to be supportive of future interplanetary missions. Chandrayaan-3 mission consists of an indigenous propulsion module, a lander module and a rover to develop and demonstrate new technologies required for inter-planetary missions.

The lander carried by the spacecraft is expected to make a soft landing on the moon on August 23 or 24 in the south pole region of the moon.
