Twitter marked Bharatiya Janata party’s Spokesperson, Sambit Patra’s Toolkit tweet as Manipulated Media.
The Congress complained to Twitter that Sambit Patra and other BJP leaders were fake. They demanded suspension of their accounts permanently on the pretext of “spreading misinformation and unrest in the society”.
BJP’s spokesperson Sambit Patra posted on Twitter alleging a “Congress Toolkit”. He alleged that the Congress wanted to discredit the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on COVID-19 handling. However, the Congress urged Twitter to remove the tweets by him and BJP leaders.
The Congress cited its police complaint calling the so-called ‘Toolkit’ a con job. BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted on May 18 with the hashtag #CongressToolkitExposed. It was supported by several BJP leaders and in turn shared it.
Twitter took an unprecedented action and marked the posts made by Sambit Patra as “Manipulated Media”.
“Friends look at the #CongressToolkit in extending help to the needy during the Pandemic! More of a PR exercise with the help of “Friendly Journalists” and “Influencers” than a soulful endeavor.

According to Twitter’s synthetic and manipulated media policy “You many not deceptively promote synthetic or manipulated media that are likely to cause harm.
Additionally, we may label Tweets containing synthetic and manipulated media to help people understand their authenticity and to provide additional context”
Twitter, which is a micro blogging site also mentions “may label Tweets that include media (videos, audio and images) that have been deceptively altered or fabricated”. However, most of the cases action is restricted to labeling.
The posts can be removed if they check all the boxes -found synthetic or manipulated, shared in a deceptive manner, and likely to cause harm.
