Telangana Ku Haritha Haram: GHMC to plant 1 crore saplings in 2023-24

As a part of Telangana Ku Haritha Haram, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed to establish one crore plantations in 2023–2024. 

According to Telangana Today, In this financial year, besides street plantation and multi-layered tree plantation. The intensive tree plantation will be done in lakes, educational institutions, open spaces, hospitals, graveyards, colonies, parks, playgrounds and jail premises.

The GHMC will also take the development of vertical gardens and greenery under the flyovers. Greenery will be further developed at Central Centre and water fountains, traffic junctions/islands. Along with this, landscape parks and tree parks will also be developed.

On Sunday, the action plan of green measures for this year was released by the civic body as part of the ten-year activity report of GHMC’s Urban Biodiversity wing. GHMC mentioned in the report that 456 landscape parks were established in the open spaces of the colony from 2014 to April 2023.

Since 2014, GHMC has established 985 parks in its jurisdiction, including 19 major parks. Each has 19 lung spaces spread over five acres and 17 theme parks, including Dog Park, Panchatantra Park, Interactive Science Park etc. 

In the last six years, against the target of 741 lakh plantations, GHMC achieved 698.78 lakh plantations under different accepts.
