Telangana: Energy consumption to increase 58.71 percent, CEA forecasts

Telangana: The National Electricity Plan (NEP) for the period 2022-2032 forecasts a 58.71 percent increase in Telangana’s energy consumption during the decade. The energy demand in Telangana is estimated to grow by 5 per cent to 6 per cent a year till 2030-31.

According to Telangana Today, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) notified the National Electricity Plan (NEP) for the period of 2022-2032. Last week, it forecasted the country’s energy demand for a decade. 

Electricity officials said that Telangana’s contracted installed power capacity currently stands at 18,567 MW. This is likely to touch 25,000 MW by the next year 2024. More than 30,000 MW by 2030.

Telangana operates under the SPV Talettutayi Solar Projects Private Limited and was constructed using 38,430 solar modules. It covers an area of 40 acres (16 hectares) and supplies about 18,000 people with energy.

Now in Telangana, solar energy contracted capacity of 5,741 MW and a total renewable capacity of 6,151 MW, which is likely to touch 10,000 MW in the next 5 years.

The energy consumption of Telangana

In Telangana, the consumption of energy has been more than 290 million units for the last five days. With over 30% of it being consumed by the agriculture sector as the rabi agricultural operations are in full swing, with paddy alone being cultivated in over 54 lakh acres with about half of it irrigated through pump sets by drawing.
 
The power demand in the State was expected to cross the 16,000 MW barrier in the coming days, and the daily energy consumption to range over 300 million units, officials said.
