Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani passed away. He passed away at his home in Srinagar late on Wednesday evening at the age of 92. He was ailing for long. His funeral took place this morning.
He was the face of Kashmir’s Separatist Politics for three decades. He resigned from politics and Hurriyat last year.
Earlier, he was a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir. He later founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani served as the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference. It is a conglomerate of pro separatist parties in Jammu and Kashmir. He was elected as an MLA from the Sopore constituency of Jammu and Kashmir in 1972, 1977 and in 1987.
