Prakash Bhagat is a left-arm spinner from Assam. He once shared the National Cricket Academy with great players like Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly. He is selling Tea and Dal Puri on a roadside stall to support his family economically.
Bhagat was a great player in the under 17 matches, which he represented Assam. In the Vijay Merchant Trophy, he took 7 wickets which included a hat-trick.
Prakash who is 34 years now, sits with his mother selling tea and snacks. He is a resident of Silchar town in Assam.
During his hay days, he was the champion of the match he played for the Nuruddin trophy. He represented his district then.
Bhagat had to leave cricket to support his family after his father death, due to a cardiac arrest.
“After the death of my father, all family responsibilities came on my shoulders. At that time, I was under pressure and I had gone a little behind in cricket because I could not give time in my regular practice.
It was difficult for me to take care of my family and play cricket at the same time and that was when my downfall started,” he said.
Unfortunately, his elder brother also was not keeping well. Hence, he had to take the responsibility of the family. “We live in a rented house and are facing a lot of difficulties. Earlier I was working in a company but I lost my job during COVID-19 lockdown.
I earned Rs.10,000-12,000 then. It was helpful for my family. But now we are facing many problems. My father was running this stall, now I am continuing this,” said Bhagat.
