Sridhar Vembu, CEO and founder of Zoho is an Indian billionaire. His name is going viral  all over the news for allegations of fraud. Pramila Srinivasan, his wife accused him of being a fraud. However, Sridhar denied his wife’s allegations of abandoning her and their autistic son.

Now let us get into details. Who is Sridhar Vembu? How did he become the CEO (founder of Zoho)? Awards he won? What is his wife’s allegation?

Sridhar Vembu

According to media reports, Sridhar Vembu is an Indian business tycoon and billionaire. He was born in 1968 in Thanjavur district, Tamilnadu. In 1989, he graduated with bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras. Later, he received MS and PhD degrees from Princeton University, New Jersey.

Career

Sridhar started his professional career at Qualcomm as wireless engineer in California. In 1996, Sridhar and two of his brothers founded AdVent Net. It was a software development house for network equipment providers. The company had promising technology but not sales.

Later in 2009, the company is renamed as Zoho Corporation. The main goal of this company is to provide SaaS support for customer relationship management service. According to Forbes, his net worth is estimated as 2.44 billion USD.

Struggle

According to Yourstory, Sridhar took charge as CEO in year 2000 and things were back on track despite of its dot-com bust in 2001. He worked along with his company to bring new products and innovations. These include Manage Engine and its cloud version Zoho.com.

Zoho bought its domain Zoho.com in 2002 for $5000. Meanwhile the company introduced several software-as-a-subscription products. These are charged with an yearly fees.

In 2005, the company introduced CRM (customer relationship management). It became as the most popular products of the company. Followed with Mail, Writer, Sheet, Show, Creator, Docs and Meeting.

With its large products, bigger markets and more customer creation Advent was renamed as Zoho Corporation in year 2009.

According to its filing with its register of companies, Zoho now stands as one of the top growing companies. It employees more than 10000 people. It continues to invest on long term R&D projects. Also to create job oppurtunities where they are needed most.

  • In year 2019, he received Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year Award” in India.
  • In 2021, he received India’s fourth highest civilian award “Padma Shri
  • According to Forbes, Sridhar Vembu is the 55th richest person in India in the year 2021.
  • Appointed to the NSAB of India in 2021.
  • Selected as CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2022.

Allegation

Pramila Srinivasan, wife of Sridhar Vembu accused her husband for abandoning her and autistic son. She filed a petition against him in a California court, US. Later, Sridhar Vembu denies the allegations made by his wife.
