The GHMC followed the ‘odd-even’ number in marking the shops and the shopkeepers were advised to adhere to the relaxation rules and ensure physical distancing norms.

After over 50 days, shopkeepers in the old city opened their shutters on Tuesday as the government has announced relaxations in lockdown.

The GHMC followed the ‘odd-even’ rules to reopen shops. The shopkeepers were advised to adhere to the relaxation rules and ensure physical distancing norms. Teams from the GHMC marked shops from Nayapul to Charminar in the old city.

However, the traders in the market were seen cleaning the shops, today being the first day.  The shop keepers could open their establishments in the afternoon after the GHMC teams completed the marking in the market.

Abid Mohiudddin, general secretary, Old City Traders Association, thanked the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for the relaxations in lockdown. He said the market association sensitized the traders about the need to maintain physical distance at shops.

“Soon all the traders will set-up shamianas in front of shops to accommodate people if customers are already there in the shop,” he said.

However, the traders complained of a huge loss due to the lockdown. “This year we are not hoping for much of business. Before the lockdown, we had placed orders for fresh stock of apparels and most of the companies had already supplied it.

However, once the lockdown was announced, we could not open the shops and sell the stock,” said a trader at Pathergatti.
