Hyderabad: Double-decker buses are all set to run on city roads after two decades and this time they will be in an electric avatar.
The 6 electric double-decker buses which will run on routes like Tank Bund, Old City and the Financial District. Hyderabad Metropolitan Urban Development Authority (HMDA) purchased these at a cost of INR 12.96 cr.
The buses will take passengers from most iconic landmarks of the city, including the Birla Mandir, Assembly, Salar Jung Museum, Charminar, Mecca Masjid and many more. Initially, passengers will be able to enjoy free rides on these nostalgic vehicles, with later ticket price will be Rs.50 per head. The Officials are planning to expand the double-decker buses routes based on the citizen response.
HMDA plans to increase its electric double decker bus up to 30 buses. This buses are with the seating capacity of 65 passengers. The bus is fully electric and with single charge, the bus can travel 150 kilometres. These electric bus will take just 2 to 2.5 hours to recharge fully. There are special charging points as installed at Khairatabad STP and Sanjeevaiah Park.
