PM Modi has announces an immediate relief package of Rs 1000 crore to West Bengal, in view of the devastation and casualties caused by cyclone Amphan in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced Rs 1,000 crore immediate relief package to West Bengal in view of the destruction and fatalities caused by cyclone Amphan in the state.
PM Modi has also announced Rs 2 lakh to the families of the dead and Rs 50,000 each to the persons who sustained serious injuries during cyclone Amphan landfall in the state. The casualties due to cyclone Amphan has mounted to 80 in West Bengal.
PM Modi said a team by the Central government will be sent to West Bengal to access the losses and damaged caused due to cyclone Amphan. He also assured rehabilitation of the destroyed lives and livelihoods
“A team will be sent by the Central government to conduct a detailed survey about the damage caused due to cyclone Amphan and the current situation of the affected areas,” PM Narendra Modi said, adding, “We all want West Bengal to move ahead.”
“I have been in touch with everyone. We have taken all possible measures to reduce damages [due to cyclone Amphan]. We empathize with everyone and are with the state in this hour of crisis. Massive damages have been reported in infrastructure, businesses, agriculture and properties,” PM Narendra Modi announced.
Sitting some feet away from the West Bengal chief minister, PM Modi said Mamata Banerjee has given an assessment of losses in the state. “We will assess it further. I have done an aerial survey with the chief minister [Mamata Banerjee] and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar,” PM Modi said.
On cyclone Amphan, PM Modi said, “In the month of May, the country was busy with elections and at that time we had to combat a cyclone that battered Odisha. Now, after a year, this cyclone has affected our coastal areas. People of West Bengal have been worst affected by it.
