COVID-19 count in India crossed the severe milestone of 10 lakh cases on July 17, Friday. A record single-day spike of 34,956 coronavirus cases were reported in the last 24 hours, pushing the country’s tally to 10,03,832.

The Union Health Ministry of health and family welfare sources say that the country has 3,42,473 active cases and 6,35,756 coronavirus patients have been cured or discharged so far.

687 COVID-19 patients lost their lives in the last 24 hours, taking the count of fatalities to 25,602.

22,942 people have recovered from the illness in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recovered cases to 6,35,756. An official said, “Around 63.33 per cent of patients have recovered so far,”

Maharashtra continues to record the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country. The state recorded its highest single-day spike of 8,641 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 2,84,281. Maharashtra has 1,14,947 active cases and 1,58,140 have been cured/discharged. With 266 new fatalities, the death toll stands at 11,194.

Only two states, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, constitute 48.15 per cent of country’s total active caseload. Of the total 36 states and Union Territories, only 10 states constitute 84.62 per cent of the total active caseload.

Tamil Nadu is at the second spot with 1,56,369 COVID cases. The state has 46,717 active cases and 1,07,416 people have been cured/discharged. 2,236 coronavirus patients have succumbed to the deadly disease as of now.
