Ayodhya Ram Mandir Trust’s Fake Cheques Scam for ₹ 6 lakh

The trust secretary Champat Rai filed an FIR with the Ayodhya police about three fake cheques. However, no arrests have been made in this case yet.

Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in Ayodhya has been defrauded of ₹ 6 lakh through two fake cheques and the fraud was detected during the verification process of a third fake cheque, said police on Thursday.

Ayodhya’s circle officer Rajesh Kumar Rai said that Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra secretary Champat Rai had filed an FIR that an amount of ₹ 6 lakhs has been withdrawn from the trust’s account using two fraud cheques, one of ₹ 2.5 lakh and ₹ 3,5 lakh. The transactions were carried out in Lucknow in Punjab National Bank branch.

However, when the third cheque for ₹ 9.86 lakh was presented to the Bank of Baroda on 9 September, the bank called Champat Rai for verification. Rai browsed through the chequebook and found the cheque bearing that number was still in his possession. Then he decided to file an FIR with the Kotwali police station on Wednesday night.

Mr. Kumar said that they are investigating the case and assured that the accused  will be arrested soon.

Deenanath Verma, the accountant of the trust said that ₹ 4 lakh were stolen but fortunately the Trust was able to manage to save ₹ 2 lakh during the fraud.

The accountant said that somebody tried to steal the money through two fake cheques, one of ₹ 3.5 lakhs and one of ₹ 2.5 lakhs. They have withdrawn ₹ 4 lakh already. He said that they have stopped further transactions for few days and saved ₹ 2 lakh. He added that they got to know about the fraud when a cheque of ₹ 9,86 lakh was presented to the Bank of Baroda and bank personnel called for verification.

On September 4, the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) has handed over the approved design of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple being constructed in Ayodhya to the Ram Temple Trust.

The Trust had on August 20 said that the construction of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Mandir has “begun” and the engineers had begun testing the soil at the site.In February this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the constitution of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, to oversee the construction of Ram terammple in Ayodhya.
