All Women cab service at Delhi Airport!. This news would bring chills down someone’s spine and warmth through the others, wonder why? Women cab drivers are supposed to be ill-equipped and sounding risky when it comes to driving and that too with the scary Delhi traffic. With the current state of affairs and Delhi owning the reputation of an unsafe place for women, we can’t help but be skeptical.

To wipe away such reputation the government has taken up new initiatives of all-women cab service. The Indira Gandhi International Airport has partnered with a private company Sakha, and has launched a service by the women for the women.

This initiative has been kicked off with a 20 car fleet, where women drivers have been trained in self-defense and driving. This initiative has come like a warm welcome. It has been started on a low key base but would be gradually pick up and grow in number.

The bookings can be done either at the counter or online, right at the time women passenger lands, and extends up to drop services till Delhi-NCR region, Agra and Jaipur. The cabs are supposed to be lined up near pillar 16 outside the arrival deck of Terminal 3 and are even open to pre-bookings.

And honestly, with such a smoothly laid out plan and an even more pressing intention to drive change in whatever capacity is needed and possible, we are glad to see this kind of initiative for the safety of women.

This service provides employment opportunities for women. These women cab drivers would adhere to the highest standards of reliability and integrity. DIAL has associated itself with Sakha cabs to ensure safety to women flyers and provides safe transport solutions for women by women. To go that extra mile few of the cars are also equipped with facilities to carry physically – challenged passengers with wheelchairs.

This initiative is appreciable but also points at how bad the situation is when it comes to women’s safety. Does it mean we do not have good cab drivers who can drive the women passengers safely? No. it’s not true but, sure will raise eyebrows that we no longer trust our men to drop women safely. It directly shows the bad state of affairs in our country.
