On Thursday, July 6th, Mark Zuckerberg officially launched Twitter’s competitor ‘Threads’, an Instagram text-based conversation app. The application is now available for both IOS and Android users. However, the application is still not available for PC versions.
Users can download ‘Threads’ app from Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. After installation, the users can import their Instagram profile by selecting the ‘Import from Instagram’ option. You may, however, create your Instagram Threads profile from the start.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the Threads application as a tough competitor for Twitter. The application has many features similar to that of Twitter. It allows users to create text-based posts with a maximum limit of 500 characters.
Users can share their thoughts, discuss, like, and comment on Threads, much like they can on Twitter. They can also share photos and videos up to five minutes in length.
In order to attract Instagram customers, verified users on Instagram receive a blue tick on Threads when they sign up. A user can be private on Instagram yet public on Threads. But sadly, there is no DM’s in this application.
Mark Zuckerberg stated more than 5 million sign-ups were registered in the first four hours.
Can Threads become a rival to Twitter?
Surpassing Twitter is not easy. Twitter has a long history and a powerful and vibrant community. The network effects here are really powerful. Users here share their views and ideas, discuss, like and comment on any topic freely within standards and guidelines.
Soon after Elon Musk took over Twitter, many users are expressing their dissatisfaction with his decisions and political moves. He has recently introduced Twitter Blue, where users are advised to pay monthly to retain their blue tick.
Meanwhile, Meta, which is known for its unique services and user-friendly structures, has recently announced Threads-an Instagram text-based app, as Twitter’s competition. The app has many features similar to that of Twitter.
With similar features and interface, many investors and strategists feel that Threads can become a rival to Twitter in the future.
Threads, with its huge user base, tops first compared to Twitter. In fact, Meta needs one-fourth of its Instagram users to join Threads in order to compete with Twitter’s user base. To attract Instagram customers, verified users on Instagram receive a blue tick on Threads when they sign up.
Since the application is still in the early stage, it is too early to say how the application will perform in future. The application is now available in 100 countries but not in Europe.
