Air pollution – most important concern for people

air pollution

Air pollution has become one of the most important concerns for us these days. Though Global activists and NGO’s strive to educate people or create awareness on  pollution, it is of no avail as it seems to be increasing rather than decreasing.

People walking on the main roads are vulnerable to polluted air more than the others, In fact even people wearing masks and those covering their nose with handkerchief and people staying indoors are no exception.

The major cause for air pollution is vehicles, especially diesel engines, petrol engines and petrol gen sets used in the shops during the power cuts. Burning of dry waste or dry leaves and plastic by GHMC personnel or others are equally polluting the air as it is extremely carcinogenic. We as responsible citizens we should try to curb  pollution by adopting these practices at individual level, which will help everyone around. It is better to take precautions rather than to be sorry.

It is high time that we understand our personal responsibilities to minimize air pollution. To control this here are few simple practices to be followed:

Save power
Plan for air curtains
Close windows and doors when the gen sets are turned on.
Discourage sweepers from burning dried leaves
Local area composting pit can be started
Turn off the air conditioners when waiting for someone.
Install air purifier at home and office
Plant air purifying plants in our surroundings
Less usage of mosquito repellents, sprays etc
Car poolinf is best for road transportation
Minimize the usage of refrigerators and air conditioners
Reduce the usage of plastic
Plant more trees
Talk to people about air pollution
Report about the vehicles which emit excess air pollution.
Lastly walk the talk.
