Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the national flag and also delivered his speech to the nation from Red Fort. The nation has celebrated its 74th Independence Day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the national flag and delivered his seventh consecutive Independence Day speech from the iconic Red Fort on Saturday. Major Shweta Pandey will assist the Prime Minister in unfurling the National Flag.
The prime minister also received the Guard of Honour contingent, consisting of one officer and 24 men each from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Delhi Police. It was positioned directly in front of the National Flag across the moat below the barriers.
PM Modi arrived at Rajghat at 7:00 am. Then at 7:14, he left Rajghat and reached Red Fort at 7:18 am. On his arrival in front of Lahore Gate of Red Fort at 7:25 am, the Prime Minister received ceremonial welcome by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar.
When he reached the saluting base he received a general salute from combined inter-services and police guards. He then inspected the Guard of Honor and proceeded to the ramparts of the Red Fort. The GoC Delhi area conducted the Prime Minister to the dais on the rampart to unfurl the National Flag.
As the flag unfurled, the National Guard gave `Rashtriya Salute` to the National Flag. The Army Grenadiers Regimental Centre Military Band played the National Anthem during the unfurling of the National Flag and the ‘Rashritya Salute’.
All the service personnel in uniform stood and saluted the flag. The band was commanded by Subedar Major Abdul Gani.
The unfurling of the tri-colour synchronized with a 21-gun salute fired by the gunners of the elite 2233 Field Battery (ceremonial). The Rashtriya Salute during unfurling of national flag was given by National Flag Guard comprising 32 men and one officer each from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Delhi Police.The National Cadet Corps cadets sang the National Anthem after the Prime Minister’s speech.
The release said that 500 NCC cadets (Army, Navy and Air Force) from different schools took part in the event.
Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of Army Staff General M M Naravane and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria were among those present on the occasion of 74th Independence Day.
