Rishi Sunak, wins the first round to replace Boris Johnson. The former chancellor of the UK, won the most votes in the first round of voting to succeed Boris Johnson as Conservative Party leader.

Rishi Sunak scored 88 votes, ahead of Penny Mordaunt (67 votes) and Truss Liz (50 votes).

According to NDTV, Rishi Sunak scored 88 votes, followed by Penny Modaunt with 67 votes and Truss Liz with 50 votes. However, the finance Minister Nadhim Zahawi and former cabinet minister Jeremy Hunt were out of the race.

Apparently, the Conservative party needs to rebuild its popular support soon. It lost its reputation in the recent times due to constant scandals. However, the successor of the Conservative leader will be announced on September 5.

Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak who is a contender in the race has maintained his lead among his party’s parliamentary colleagues. On the contrary, Penny Modaunt seems to be building momentum. Though they seem to be only three people -Sunak, Mordaunt and Liz Truss in the race, it is wide open. Rishi Sunak, wins the first round.
