Infosys Narayana Murthy’s son-in-law, Rishi Sunak campaigns to be the next Prime Minister of UK and also the leader of the conservative party. Rishi Sunak was the former finance minister of UK. He vows to tackle soaring inflation and promised tax cuts to his rivals.

Sunak quit as the finance minister last week, which brought in a climax to the downfall of Boris Johnson. Few days later, Boris Johnson stepped down amid a widespread rebellion by Conservative lawmakers.

Political Career

Rishi Sunak is a British politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022. Earlier he served as Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020. Rishi is a member of the Conservative Party, he has been a Member of Parliament for Richmond since 2015.

This 42 year old PM aspirant is leading the race. He has 10 other members in the race. Hence it is not going to be smooth sailing for him.

Allegations on Rishi

It is alleged that Rishi Sunak neglected his job as Chancellor and resigned during the toughest economic times for the country. People say that he resigned to plot against the PM Boris Johnson. This act of his threw the country into chaos, in turn his career too.

Old video

His opposition released his old video. Rishi Sunak’s video when he was 21 years old surfaced now and received backlash from the people. In the video, Rishi is heard saying that he does not have working-class friends. He is trying to create in the minds of the people that he is one of the top forerunner contenders.

In a BBC documentary, Rishi Sunak is heard saying, “I have friends who are aristocrats, I have friends who are upper-class, I have friends who are, you know, working-class. Well, not working class.”

Non-domiciled status

In addition to this, it was revealed that his wife, Akshata Murthy, the daughter of Narayan Murthy, founder of IT giant Infosys is using Non-domiciled status. This status is used by foreign nationals who do not regard Britain as their permanent home.

This has come as a blow to Rishi’s campaign as it is revealed that she has not been paying British tax on her foreign income.

Storm in a tea cup

Last week, Rishi Sunak’ had to face another controversy. His wife Akshata Murthy served journalists tea in cups worth Rs.3,600 each amid soaring cost of living in the UK. This led to a storm on twitter. Netizens trolled her for using such expensive cups amid hike in taxes and a soaring cost of living in the country. This was exactly why the public cried against Boris Johnson-led government.
