Three men accused of causing communal violence in the recently held Ram Navami celebrations in Madhya Pradesh had been in jail since March. Earlier, police named these men in a case of attempting murder. This overlapping of cases raises questions about the police investigation in the riots case.

One of the three men’s house was allegedly demolished citing illegal construction.

Ironically, these three men were in the jail since March. The case against them was that they set a motorbike on fire in Sendhwa of Bharwani district. One of these two districts witnessed communal clashes on Ram Navami.

Interestingly, the names of these three men were  found in the same police station, but for fresh cases registered on April 10.

When the police officials were questioned about the overlapping of cases, they said that the case was filed based on the statement of the complainant. “We will investigate the matter and take information from the jail superintendent. Moreover, the case has been registered on the basis of the allegations of the complainant,” said senior police officer Manohar Singh.

The three men are identified as Shabaz, Fakru and Rauf. They are in the jail in connection with an attempt to murder case registered against them on March 5.

Shahbaz’s mother Sakina alleged that her house was vandalized after communal clashes and no notice was served to her. “the police came here, my son is in jail for almost one and a half months. He was arrested after a fight but the police came threw us out, my child is in jail so I want to ask why the FIR was registered against him.

We told the policemen that he is in jail but no one was ready to listen to us. We folded our hands, apologized. They have taken my younger son also,” she said.

The authorities ran bulldozer over 45 houses and shops. Around 16 houses and 29 shops were demolished on Monday.
