Zoom video call app is not a safe platform says Home Ministry
The Zoom video call app is not a safe platform for video conference, the government on Thursday said, issuing a set of guidelines for the safety of private users who “still would like to use Zoom for private purpose”.
The outbreak of the Coronavirus epidemic and the lockdown which followed it has compelled the employees to work from home. Many organizations have been depending on zoom app for video conferences or online classes. Companies and employees are increasingly using the zoom app. The demand for the app made it cross the 200 million user mark worldwide.
Not secure
People have been using the Zoom app for meetings, conferences, and online classroom teaching. It has gained popularity during the lockdown. Over Zoom app government released the news. The News release from the Home Ministry came as a shocker. The ministry has recently warned that the app which is being used for various things especially for video conferences, is not a secure platform.
Risk of stealing information
The Ministry has accentuate that zoom app should not be used for official purposes by government offices and officials. Since there is a risk that anonymous people may participate in the meeting. They also warned about cyber criminals risk stealing sensitive information and other personal information.
The instructions of the Home Ministry
The Home Ministry has suggested that zoom is a safe platform for personal use. The Ministry had received instructions from the Cyber Coordination Center. India’s security agency Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CRT-India) had issued warnings before.
