‘Y’ security for the Dalit girl’s family, demands Bhim Army chief after visiting Hathras

Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad alleged that the case was handed over to the CBI as an eyewash to the people of India and to scare the family of the victim.

‘Y’ security for the family members of the 20-year-old Hathras woman who died earlier this week after gang-raped by four upper caste men on 14 September was demanded by Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad on Sunday.

Aazad, dressed in an outfit that works to promote Dalit rights, reached the woman’s house in Boolgarhi village around 4.15 pm on Sunday, along with six other members of the Bhim Army. The UP government issued permission to him around noon.

He questioned the government while speaking to the media, “If Kangana Ranaut can get Y+ security then why can’t my family, people of my community get? Does the torture done to them not count?”.

The Bhim Army chief added that he doesn’t expect a fair CBI investigation in the case.

He further added that he has no faith in (investigations by) government agencies like the CBI and SIT. He feels that are part of the state machinery, and puppets which only follow the government’s orders. Everyone has seen how the DM (district magistrate) and other officials had made umpteen to intimidate the family members.”

Though Yogi Adityanath’s government has transferred the Hathras case to the CBI on Saturday and has promised to inflict the harshest punishment on those responsible for the incident, he could not satisfy the people. He could not create the faith among the Dalits.

This is clearly evident in the Bhim Army Chief’s words.  Aazad said that if the government doesn’t heed to his demands, then he will march to the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha.

The Bhim Army chief has alleged that the CBI inquiry was only introduced to panic the family of the victim. “The key to the CBI is held by this government. It’s only a way to suppress the opposition,” he claimed.

Aazad demanded that a retired justice of the Supreme Court be given the responsibility to look into the matter. He said that their only trust is in the top court.

He also said he will take the woman’s family members to his own home if ‘Y’ security isn’t provided to them.

The family members of the woman, speaking to the media with Aazad, agreed with his demands and said they feel threatened in their village. He said that he can’t let anyone attack the family as “Protests, chaos is created at every corner by them (members of the Thakur community).

The conduct of Uttar Pradesh Police as well as district administration in the Hathras case has come under the scanner over allegations that the family’s complaint was initially ignored, and especially after the controversial cremation was done late Tuesday night.

It is evident that the Yogi Adityanath government is strongly working to protect the accused who belong to the upper caste by the incidents happening in up. To the surprise of everyone, some upper caste residents of the village took out a march against Aazad’s visit to Boolgrahi Sunday, raising slogans like ‘UP Police Zindabad’.
