Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of United Kingdom was compelled to resign, as he lost the support of his MP’s. Apart from this, there are many more reasons for his downfall.
Less than three years ago, Boris Johnson, won the elections with the biggest majority, which the conservatives did not taste since 1987.
Ignore Covid-19 Rules
During Covid-19, strict rules were made the Prime Minister during the lock down. Sadly, the Prime Minister himself ignored the rules. He was fined for breaking the lockdown rules. He attended a birthday party in June 2020.
Similarly, his subordinates followed him and the staff from the 10 downing street partied in the gardens. Many social and political events were organized which broke the lockdown rules.
The Pincher pinch
MP Chris Pincher, was appointed the deputy chief whip of the the Conservative party by Boris Johnson. He appointed him without looking into the allegations he was facing. This official went to a private members’ club in London. He drank too much and misbehaved in the party.
The Prime Minister overlooked all the allegations and denied to have known them. However, he had to accept his lies and apologies for his mistake. This also is the cause of his downfall.
Misleading the Parliament deliberately
The cost of living crisis and the tax rise, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which led to the rise in oil prices and the cost food, rise in National insurance, tax rise for health Ans social care etc. were not under his control.
He was unable to manage them. Hence Inflation rose sharply. The government chose to increase taxes on the working class. Though the government took some steps, the parliament was misled deliberately.
Owen Paterson suspension
Owen Paterson was accused of braking the lobbying rules. The house of commons claimed that he tried to benefit companies who paid him.
Investigations were carried out and then the committee recommended a 30-day suspension. However, he resigned.
PM Boris Johnson was accused of not handling the situation well for which even he accepted his mistake. His critics felt that the PM and his team lacked focus and ideas.
Ex-adviser turned chief critic
His ex-adviser turned chief critic, Dominic Cummings, repeatedly accused him of being an out-of-control. He questioned the Prime Minister’s philosophy. Another critic accused Mr. Johnson of lacking “integrity, competence and vision”.
No-Confidence vote
Boris Johnson had to face the No-confidence vote. Although he won the majority, the complaints got louder.
Resignation
Finally, many of his MP’s spoke against the PM Boris Johnson and now he had to resign. However, he will continue to remain the PM, until a new leader is elected.
