A video is surfing on the internet where Asian airlines passenger reportedly opens an emergency exit door during a flight about to land in South Korea.
This incident shook the passengers. There was chaos and panic among the 194 passengers in the wind-swept cabin. The Asiana Airlines Airbus A321 was about to land in Daegu after a flight from the southern island of Jeju on Friday when the passenger pulled the emergency exit handle at an altitude of about 700 feet, officials said.
According to CNN, when the suspect, a guy in his 30s, was caught at Daegu International Airport, he admitted to unlocking the door but refused to explain why. Officials said ‘We will investigate the motive of the crime and punish him’. The person was detained by airport police on suspicion of violating the aviation security law, a ministry statement said. The person’s identity and motive weren’t immediately released.
According to the transport ministry, although the plane landed safely, at least a dozen people suffered minor injuries in the harrowing incident. A passenger said that people who were close to the door fainted, and flight attendees were calling out for doctors. There were also breathing difficulties with a few passengers, and as soon as the plane landed, they were rushed to the local hospital. Children and teens started crying out of fear, a passenger told.
