On Friday, August 11, the Central Government has introduced three new bills to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC) of 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) of 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the last day of the Monsoon session announced three new bills in Lok Sabha.
While speaking in Lok Sabha Amit Shah said, the new bill on IPC will completely repeal the offence of sedition.
From 1860 until 2023, the country’s criminal justice system functioned as per laws made by the British. Furthermore, he assured the House that these new bills will transform the criminal justice system.
Three New Bills to replace IPC, CRPC and Evidence Act:
- The Indian Penal Code of 1860 will be replaced by Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhitha-2023.
- The CRPC of 1973 will be replaced by Bharathiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhitha-2023 and
- The Indian Evidence Act of 1872 will be replaced by Bharatiya Sakshya Bill-2023.
