Journalist Rana Ayyub is one of the most brutally targeted women journalists on Twitter. This information came to the limelight when Julie Posetti, the Deputy Vice-President, International Center for Journalists, was discussing the failure of giant social media companies.
Julie felt that these big companies have failed to curb online violence. Furthermore, she spoke about the psychological damage, which happens to the people, due to abuse and harassment on social media.

In a recently published article in The Guardian, Julie Posetti and Kalina Bontcheva wrote that in a span of 27 months, Rana Ayyub was abused the most. She was brutally targeted with more than 8.5 million tweets. This makes Rana Ayyub, as one of the most brutally targeted journalists in the world.

Journalist Rana Ayyub is an independent journalist, who is a columnist in Washington Post. She is trolled the most because she is a critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling party, BJP.
Rana uses social media to grab the attention of the world. She informs the world, the plight of the Indian Muslims and the arrests of the journalists in India.
Allegations on Rana
However, many a time the government tried to discourage her from doing this. She was threatened, stopped, humiliated etc. but she didn’t stop. When the government could not stop her from telling the world about the ongoing atrocities in the country, they accused her of money laundering and tax fraud.

Rana Ayyub had started a foundation to help those affected by Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. She runs it through crowdfunding. However, she has denied any wrongdoing. The ED summoned her and questioned her.
