Railways to convert train coaches into isolation wards

Covid-19 outbreak: Railways convert train coaches into isolation wards

Indian Railways is likely to transform its coaches into quarantine facilities, to help the state governments in containing the spread of novel coronavirus infection. Indian railways convert train coaches into isolation wards. With the outbreak of corona virus in our country, the need for the medical facilities to quarantine the infected ones has increased. Indian Railways has come up with a creative solution to meet the demand.

The existing coaches would be turned into wards for those who need to be quarantined. Medical facilities and food are provided within the coach.

The Railways has formulated a plan to turn its train coaches into quarantine hubs and increase isolation facilities.

Indian railways suspended Trains throughout the nation over the nation-wide lock down.  It means that the coaches can be used effectively in places where there is access to power and pantry.

By dividing the coaches (which have nine segments, with six berths each) into sections with space to move around, 9 patients will be accommodated in one coach.

To provide supply to stations the Railways pantry cars will be turned into mobile kitchens.

Identiftying and disinfecting the railway coaches would be used for quarintine facilities.
