Indian Student killed in Ukraine is identified as Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar, 21, from Karnataka. He was pursuing his fourth-year medicine at the Kharkiv National Medical University in Kharkiv.
However, the first casualty of a 21 year-old boy from Karnataka, is the first casualty of our country in the Russian-Ukraine war.
Indian officials identified the student as Naveen. S.G. He was a fourth- year MBBS student at Kharkiv National Medical University.
He hails from Chalageri village in Karnataka’s Haveri district. Meanwhile, the Indian officials claimed that he was killed in shelling.
On the other hand, a former hostel mate of Naveen in Kharkiv doesn’t agree with them. He claimed that Naveen was hit in firing by the Russian army outside a grocery store.
Meanwhile, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Foreign Secretary said that all Indian nationals have been evacuated from Ukraine’s capital Kyiv.
According to the Indian Express, the government is planning to shut the Indian embassy in Kyiv. Subsequently, plans to move the officials to a recently established office in Lviv, about 70 km from the Poland border. This would help to speed up the evacuation process.
Consequently, some Embassy officials already moved to the new office. Apparently, the Embassy will be fully vacated if the security situation worsens in the capital of Ukraine.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi confirmed the news of the student’s death. “With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We convey our deepest condolences to the family” he posted on Twitter.
