India, reported a spike of 24,248 new COVID-19 cases and 425 deaths in the last 24 hours, on Monday. Positive cases in the country stand at 6,97,413 including 2,53,287 active cases, 4,24,433 cured/ discharged/ migrated and 19,693 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare said in its latest update.
The total number of samples tested according to the Indian Council of Medical Research is that up to July 5 was 99,69,662 of which 1,80,596 samples were tested on Sunday alone.
In the mean time, Maharashtra has highest number of reported cases. Maharashtra has so far recorded 2, 06,619 cases, as per the data of the Health Ministry. 1, 11,740 people have been discharged so far. The number of active cases are 86,057. The state has recorded 8,822 deaths.
India now third worst COVID-19-affected country in the world
India surpassed Russia in terms of COVID-19 count and became the third worst-affected country in the world, on Sunday. US and Brazil are the only two countries which have reported more number of cases than India so far.
Meanwhile, the Kerala government has made it mandatory for the public to adhere to Covid-19 safety guidelines such as wearing of masks for the next one year.
