IMD Warns of Extreme Rainfall in Tamilnadu Districts including Chennai

The India Meteorological department(IMD) warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chennai and several districts of Tamil Nadu. Consequently, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the state police department and revenue officials are alerted.

Furthermore, schools and colleges in Chennai and many districts are given holidays for Wednesday and Thursday.

The IMD warned that the whole of Western Tamil Nadu will receive spells of rain. It walso informed that the rains will recede from November 11 onwards.

The IMD area cyclone warning department said in a statement that rains are expected in Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Villupuram, Ramantahpuram, Sivaganga, Puducherry and Karaikkal areas. Further, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvannamalai districts on Thursday.

Subsequently, the NDRF prepared themselves for any eventuality and more than ten teams of the agency are in Chennai. The NDRF, Revenue and Police teams together made plans for evacuation and other eventualities if heavy rains lash Chennai and the surrounding areas.
