Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan is at loggerheads with the state government. In the press meet the Governor Tamilisai alleges her phones tapped. Later she summoned the state’s Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy to discuss a common recruitment board for all 15 state universities in accordance with University Grants Commission rules.
In the press meet, Ms. Soundararajan questioned the government regarding the vacancies have not been filled even after several reminders in the last three years.
According to the sources in Telangana, the TRS-led state government had sent a Bill to the Governor. Apparently one of eight pending with her. However, that would allow direct recruitment to teaching and non-teaching posts, except in medical university, for her approval.
Earlier, she had refused to sign the bills. This attitude of her enraged the students of the Telangana university. They warned of marching to the Raj Bhagwan in protest on Wednesday and called her a “puppet of the Centre”.
Governor Soundararajan has also accused the state government of not following protocol courtesies. She said she wasn’t allowed to address the people on Republic Day this year. She was also denied the opportunity to address a joint session of the state assembly.
The state’s counter-accusation is that the Governor had refused to sign a cabinet resolution appointing TRS leader Kaushik Reddy as an MLC under the Governor quota.
Moreover, the 3 Chief Ministers of South India accused that the Governors behave as the ‘agents of the Centre.’ Off late a silent war was going on in the 3 Southern states of India- Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The Cold War between the Governors and the ruling governments. But now it has become murky.
Apparently, the Governors are appointed with strict instructions to trouble the present government of the state, more so when it is not the BJP government.
Earlier, when West Bengal had to go for elections, Mr Jagdeep Dhankar troubled the Chief Minister. Eventually, he was made the Vice-President of India.
However, the other governors are following his foot steps. According to the Chief Ministers, the Governors should support the ruling party in the state.
On the contrary, the Governors create new problems to the state government. The Telangana governor called for a press conference to express her anger on the state government. Most of the leaders including opposition leader and State Congress President. Mr. Revanth Reddy condemned this act of the Governor.
As reported by the NDTV, there are as many as 20 Bills pending Governor’s assent in Tamil Nadu. The DMK party leaders had protested against RN Ravi in April, for not sending the NEET Exemption Bill to the President after being passed twice in the state Assembly
On the other hand, In Kerala, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, already in a bitter war of words with the CPI(M) led government, has also stoked the ire of journalists by expelling two of them from top Malayalam TV channels from his press briefing at the Ernakulam guest house.
