FIR against Ramdev, others for claiming to develop cure for coronavirus

Haridwar-based Patanjali Ayurved claimed on Tuesday, that the new medicine Coronil can cure coronavirus. However, the medicine has not been approved by the AYUSH Ministry.

An FIR has been filed by the Rajasthan Police against yoga guru Baba Ramdev for launching an Ayurvedic drug, which allegedly is cure for coronavirus, without the AYUSH ministry’s nod.

Patanjali Ayurved MD Acharya Balkrishna; Jaipur-based National Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMS) director BS Tomar; his son Anurag Tomar; and senior scientist Anurag Varshney were also named in the FIR.

Ashok Gupta,Additional Commissioner of Police, Jaipur,  the FIR was lodged in Jyoti Nagar police station on the basis of a complaint filed by an advocate of Rajasthan High Court.

“We had received complaints at multiple police stations against Ramdev for claiming to have developed a medicine which cures coronavirus. Therefore, we have registered a case against Ramdev, his associate Balkrishna, NIMS director Dr Tomar, based on a complaint by advocate Balram Jakhar,” Gupta told the media.

The five have been booked under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, as per police.
