Cyclone Sitrang hit Bangladesh on Monday. At least 11 people were reported to have died due to the impact of the cyclone.
As many as 11 people were killed in six districts of Bangladesh after Cyclone Sitrang hit on Monday. According to the statement issued by the meteorological department , the cyclone crossed the Bangladesh coast near Barisal between 9:30 pm and 11:30 pm on Monday after skirting the West Bengal coast.
Cyclone Sitrang slammed into densely-populated, low-lying Bangladesh late Monday, killing at least five people. However, the hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated by the authorities fearing heavy rain and storm.
According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclone Sitrang crossed Dhaka via Sylhet district and entered India on Monday night. At this point, it becomes a land depression.
According to India Today, the storm is likely to bring moderate to heavy rain over most parts of the country, including the coast, till Tuesday afternoon.
15 coastal districts of the country, including Chittagong, Payra and Mongla seaports and Cox’s Bazar coast have been asked to show danger signal number 7 to warn others that the cyclone is likely to cross the port.
