BJP Women’s wing leader accused of torturing maid, suspended from party

Seema Patra, a retired IAS officer’s wife was a member of the national working committee of the BJP’s women wing. Seems Patra is suspended from BJP with immediate effect.

Her profile shows that she is the state convener of ‘Beti bachao and Beti padao’. On the contrary, the videos of the house maid, Sunita, will send shocks down the spine. It is evident that the leader has no humanity in her.

Physical torture

In the horrifying videos, the maid is seen with missing teeth and wounds and scars on her body. Her condition is so pathetic that she is unable to sleep or sit on the hospital bed. The injuries and scars reveal that she was tortured and tormented number of times. People are calling for immediate arrest of Seema Patra.

In the horrifying videos, the woman, Sunita, is seen on a hospital bed. Several of her teeth are seen missing, and she is incapable of sitting up. The injury marks on her body point to repeated instances of assault, local media reports said. The visuals have evoked strong reactions, with many calling for Ms Patra’s immediate arrest.

Poor girl from a tribal village

According to NDTV, Sunita is 29 years old now and hails from a tribal village named Gumla in Jharkhand . She was brought to the Patras about 10 years ago. It is said that their daughter Vatsala was moving to Delhi for work and Sunita went along as her help. About four years ago, Vatsala and Sunita returned to Ranchi.

The maid who was in immense pain shared her ordeal. She alleged that she was brutally tortured by Ms. Seema for six years. Sunita recalls that she was beaten up with hot tava and rods. Her teeth were broken.

Ayushman the saviour

She said that she was confined to a room, which was a toilet and her bedroom. If the urine came out of the room, she was made to clean it with her tongue. Sunita alleges that she  was treated brutally for no mistake of her. However, she says that it was Ms. Seema’s son Ayushman helped her to come out of this situation.

Earlier, when Ayushman had revolted against Ms Seema, she sent him for psychiatric treatment and made him stay in the hospital for many days. However, Ayushman tried his best to help Sunita. He informed his friend about the torture meted out towards the maid and requested him to help Sunita. Ayushman’s friend in turn registered a police complaint. Eventually Sunita was rescued.

Family

Sunita has a sister and brother-in-law. They were informed several times about her suffering. However, they did not have the courage to talk to Ms. Seema. Hence, refused to take her home.

Though Sunita went through all this torture, her desire to get educated hasn’t faded away.
