An elderly couple was seen out on the streets of Samastipur, Bihar begging money to “get their son’s body released from a government hospital”.

According to NDTV, the poor couple alleged that a hospital employee demanded ₹ 50,000 to release the body of their son. The Bihar couple begs everyone to give money since they cannot afford to pay the money to the hospital.

The news reports claimed that the couple went door to door in Samastipur district, Bihar and “begs for money” to get their son’s dead body. A video of the couple has gone viral on social media.

The father said that his son went missing a few days ago. They were searching desperately for him. One day they received a call from the hospital that their son’s body was at Sadar Hospital, Samastipur.

When they rushed to the hospital to get their son’s body, a hospital employee asked for Rs.50,000/-. He asked for a bribe to release their son’s body. Mahesh Thakur told ANI, “We’re poor people, how can we pay this amount?,”

According to the people visiting the hospital, “most of the health workers at the hospital are on contract and often do not get their salaries on time. Hence, it’s common that the staff takes money from relatives of patients.

However, the hospital authorities have said that strict action will be taken in the matter. “Those found responsible will not be spared. This is a shame on humanity,” said Dr SK Chaudhary, civil surgeon, Samastipur.
