Prime Minister Modi has spoken to the Assam Chief Minister Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday to take stock of the flood, erosion, and COVID-19 problem in the city.

The Assam flood has created havoc which costed three lives on Saturday, July 18, 2020, which has affected 27.64 Lakh people in 26 out of 33 areas. Assam floods have destroyed many houses, farms, roads, and bridges in many places.

According to the sources,  two people have died in Berpeta and one person from the south Salmara area, taking the death toll to 79. The sources also added that the total is twenty-six landslides in the daily report about the flood situation.

90  animals died in the Kaziranga National park this rainy season, as per the reports.  Meanwhile, assurance have been given that proper care will be taken of the animals and that no problem would arise in the days to come.

Government has arrange its employees into groups and individual teams to sort our problems for flood and COVID-19 at the moment, which is now wide of the mark in the city.

The cities which have been hit by the floods are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Berpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Metropolitan, Morgan, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivaaasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Karbi Angling and Cachar.

The total number of people effected due to the floods is  35.76 Lakhs in 28 districts. The flood situation has improved in Hojai and West Karbi Anglong areas.  Dhubri was the most hit by 4.69 Lakh people were injured, followed by Goalpara about 4.49 Lakh people, in Morgan and Barpeta was 3.5 Lakh people.

Two thousand six hundred seventy-eight villages have submerged into the flood water according to the state government bulletin. The bulletin also states 1, 16404 farms have been damaged in overflow all over the city.  Hence, the government has been giving all kinds of help to the people, such as baby food, candle, matchbox, mosquito net, biscuit, soap, drinking water, cattle feed, mask, and wheat bran.

The flood in Assam seems to worsen with many rivers such as the Brahmaputra, which is overflowing right above the danger mark, the water level of the river Barak, which goes right through Cachar district in the city has been above during these times.

The condition is so pathetic that the situation can worsen even more if there’s more rain in these areas.
