Indian Wrestlers’ protests by top Indian wrestlers against the alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers by the BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh during his tenure as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India. But Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has reiterated that the charges are baseless.
According to NDTV, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has reiterated that the charges are baseless. He also added that he is ready to step down if PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah or BJP chief JP Nadda asks him to resign.
Bhushan Singh in an interview with NDTV, said that, “Why will PM Modiji ask me to resign? And if he asks me to, I will. If my party is suffering because of me, it’s image is being maligned, then if Modi ji or the party asks me to resign, I will.”
Reason behind wrestlers protest
Indian wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Anshu Malik, Bajrang Punia, are staged protest. Accusing Wrestling Federation of India president, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and it’s coaches of sexually harassing female players. The wrestlers are protesting from last week at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Wrestlers demanding arrest of BJP MP Singh and the report by the government appointed committee be made public, claiming that nothing has been done to resolve their issues.
Two FIR’s are registered one under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act and the other for outraging modesty. Another case was filed against Brij Bhushan by the Delhi Police on 28 April. After case filed the protestors called first step towards victory.
Top political leaders and many Indian athletes met the protestors on the site and extended their support to them. P. T. Usha, retired Indian athlete and head of the Indian Olympic Association also met the wrestlers protest at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. She said that the protests “amounted to indiscipline” and was “tarnishing image of India”.
