Darshan Solanki suicide case: Mumbai police arrest roommate – Part 1

On Sunday, Mumbai police arrested an IIT Bombay (IIT-B) student for his involvement with the February 12 suicide of Darshan Solanki. Case is designated under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, which remanded him in police custody till Thursday.

Darshan Solanki, resident of Ahmedabad first-year student, leapt from the seventh floor of his university, IIT-B. Solanki’s suicide letter was discovered a month after his death. It is the key evidence in the case providing him with closure, although after his death.

The suicide note, which stated: “Armaan has killed me”. Police took the help of handwriting experts who concluded that Darshan wrote it. On March 16, the suicide note was handed over to Darshan’s family.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Mumbai Police Sunday arrested one of his batchmates Armaan on the charge of abetment to suicide. The police first filed an accidental death report, but the investigation was eventually handed to the SIT led by Joint Commissioner (Crime) Lakhmi Gautam.

According to SIT sources, Darshan Solanki committed suicide about 1.00 PM on February 12th. Prior to his death, authorities claimed that he had communicated with his father, who indicated Solanki was quite happy and had plans to return home. He also claimed that he was heading to Imagica Park in Raigad with his pals.
