‘The Elephant Whisperers’, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short category at the 95th Academy Awards. It is directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga.
Most of us have the heart of a child alive in us. Hence, watching baby elephant videos always soothes us. Who can resist baby elephants? Moreover, seems like Oscars jury, too, could not resist the baby elephant.
A labour of love, ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ took five years to be made. Gonsalves and Guneet Monga, the producers of the film, worked closely with the indigenous Kattunayakan tribe, of which Bomman and Bellie are members. The shooting took place at the Mudumalai National Park (located in the lap of the majestic Nilgiri Mountains in Tamil Nadu).
From celebrities to common people everyone poured positive responses for the documentary.
