BRS MLC K Kavitha protests one-day hunger strike demanding the introduction of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the current Budget Session of Parliament, at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on Friday.
The hunger strike programme at Jantar Mantar was inaugurated by CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury. Women ministers, MPs and MLAs of the BRS, including Telangana Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod, were also present.

CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said in his inaugural address, We have come here to assure that our party will extend support to Kavitha in this protest till the bill is passed in Parliament. It is important to bring this bill to give equal opportunity to women in politics.
He also said that many States had ensured 33 per cent reservation for women in local bodies. “If it is possible in local bodies, why not in the Parliament or the Assembly?” he asked.
He also said that when he entered Parliament for the first time in 2014. PM Narendra Modi had said that his government first priority would be the Women’s Reservation Bill. It has been nine years now, this bill has not been introduced again in Parliament, he said. It is important to bring this bill in the Parliament. The CPI-M will support the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party in this protest, he added.

BRS MLC K Kavitha while addressing a gathering, this Bill will help in the development of the nation and requested the central government to introduce the Bill in Parliament, she said. Women should get more representation in politics for which it is important to bring this bill that is pending for the last 27 years.
Women’s Reservation bill is important and we need to bring it soon. I promise all women this protest will not stop until the bill is introduced.
She also thanked all the political parties and the women’s organisations all the party members who were extending their support for the Bill.
27 years later, Women’s Reservation Bill still continues to be absent from the Parliament.
