Bridegroom Morcha: To bring attention to the problem of an imbalanced male-female ratio, eligible bachelors marched through Maharashtra’s Solapur district in search of brides.

The ‘bridegroom morcha’ was organized on Wednesday. Later submitted a letter to the district collector’s office. Requesting imposition of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act to improve Maharashtra‘s male-female ratio.

Several bachelors arrived at the collector’s office dressed in wedding gowns, riding horses. They were accompanied by band music, demanding brides for themselves.

Ramesh Baraskar, founder of the Jyoti Kranti Parishad, which organized the event said, People may insult this morcha. But the harsh reality is that youth of marriage are not finding brides simply because the state’s male-female ratio is imbalanced.

He also stated that the sex ratio in Maharashtra was 889 girls for every 1,000 boys.

This inequality is a problem because of female abortions, and the government is to blame, Baraskar claimed.
