7 soldiers killed: A vehicle carrying 26 soldiers falls into a river in Ladakh

In a tragic accident, 7 soldiers were killed when a vehicle carrying them skidded off the road. Moreover, the vehicle rolled down into a gorge near Shyok river in Ladakh on Friday.

Speaking to NDTV, an army spokesman said, a party of 26 soldiers was moving from the Transit Camp in Partapur to a forward location in Sub Sector Hanif. At approximately 9 am, around 25 km from Thoise, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell in Shyok river. The depth was approximately 50-60 ft, resulting in injuries to all occupants.

Immediately, the rescue operation was carried out. All the soldiers were evacuated to a field hospital in Partapur.

According to the Spokesman,”Seven individuals have been declared fatal so far. There are grievous injuries to others as well. Dedicated efforts are underway to ensure that the best medical care is provided to the injured. Furthermore, requisition of air effort from the Air Force to shift the more serious casualties to Western Command is also ready.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences to the families of the 7 soldiers killed in the road accident. He assured that all possible assistance is being given to those affected.

“Anguished by the bus accident in Ladakh in which we have lost our brave army personnel,” PM Modi tweeted.
