Texas school shooting: 19 children and 2 adults killed

19 young children along with two adults were killed when a teen opened a fire at an elementary school, Texas. It is reported as the deadliest US school shooting in years.

The Suspect in the Texas School Shooting

On Tuesday, an 18 year old, Salvador Ramos, opened a fire at Robb Elementary School in the city of Uvalde. Later, he was shot by US Border Patrol officer, said officials.

According to the report by BBC, the suspect was armed with a handgun, an AR-15 semi automatic rifle and high capacity magazines. The teen was suspected to start the fire on his grandmother before the rampage. It is reported by officials, that the Grandmother is undergoing treatment.

Daily Mail reported that it is said by the suspect’s friend that Ramos was a student of Uvalde high school and was constantly teased about his financial status. It also added, the shoot was started around 11.32 am.

Victims of the Texas School Shooting

CNN reported that the 19 young victims of this fire were aged between seven and eleven.

KSAT-TV, a local News affiliate, reported that the first victim at school has been identified as Eva Mireles, a 4th grade teacher at Robb Elementary. Later, daily mail reported that, the other teacher was named Irma Garcia, she was a co-teacher of Mireles. Two US Border Patrol officers were nearby when the shots were heard. One of the officers was shot in the head but both are in stable conditions as officials said.

The White House Response

The US President Biden flew from Japan on Tuesday. He addressed the nation in the evening. Responding to the shoots he said, “How many scores of little children who witnessed what happened- see their friends die, as if they’re in battle field, for God’s sake”. He added,” They’ll live with it the rest of their lives.”

House speaker Nancy Pelosi described the act as monstrous shooting which stole the futures of precious children. She added, “it is time for all in Congress to heed the will of the American people and join in enacting the House-passed bipartisan, commonsense, life-saving legislation into law.”

Flags fly half staff

The President took a moment to empathize with the parents and asked the nation to pray for them. In accordance with the tragedy, the flags on the White House fly half staff daily until sunset on Saturday.
