The Hyderabad Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (CDRC) fined a DMart outlet in Hydernagar, Hyderabad for charging customers for carry bags.
According to media sources, Akash Kumar, the petitioner was charged Rs.3.50 by DMart for a carry bag. He had bought goods worth Rs.602 in May 2019. In regard to this, the commission asked the retail chain to pay Rs.1000 compensation to the consumer. Moreover, to return Rs3.5 it had collected from him.
In addition to that, the Commission gave directions that no payment is required for the supply of a carry bag.
The petitioner had argued that it was not fair to charge for the carry bag as the bag had a logo of DMart on it. However, the time for compliance is 45 days. If the business fails to comply with court orders they would be liable to pay an interest of 18 per cent.
