Highest single-day spike of 24879 new COVID-19 cases and 487 deaths in the last 24 hours, were reported in India on Thursday.  The total number of positive cases in the country stands at 7,67,296.

While  2,69,789 of these are active cases, 4,76,378 people have been cured/discharged/migrated, the death toll in the country stands at 21,129 deaths, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said in its latest update on Thursday morning.

The total number of positive cases of coronavirus in the country stands at 7,67,296.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 1,07,40,832 samples have been tested so far for COVID-19 till 8th July. “Of these, 2,67,061 samples were tested yesterday,” ICMR said.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi worst-hit with COVID-19

Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of cases so far. As of Thursday morning, the state had reported a total of 2.23 lakh cases of novel coronavirus. While 91,084 of these are active cases, 1.23 lakh people have been cured and discharged. The death toll in the state stands at 9,448.

With 1.22 lakh cases, Tamil Nadu is the second worst-COVID-19-affected state, followed by Delhi, which has reported 1.04 lakh cases of coronavirus. While 23,452 of these are active cases, over 78,000 people have been discharged/ released so far.
