In a surprising move, Youtube announced its new medical misinformation policy, including removing cancer misinformation. The announcement came on Tuesday by the company through a blog post.
According to the blog post, the company will remove anything that violates well-established health authority guidelines on matters such as Covid-19, reproductive health, cancer, and harmful substances, among others.
Apparently, these policies will be applied to specific health conditions, treatments, and substances whose content contradicts local health authorities or the World Health Organization (WHO).
Moving forward, YouTube will group dozens of current medical misinformation guidelines into three categories: prevention, treatment, and denial.

People with the free availability of the internet, usually go online to see information from research symptoms, learn about treatment journeys, and find community.
The company’s mission is to ensure that when people go to YouTube. They can easily get high-quality information from credible health sources.
Furthermore, “Starting today and ramping up in the coming weeks, we will begin removing content. That promotes cancer treatments proven to be harmful or ineffective, or content that discourages viewers from seeking professional medical treatment”, the company added.
