The list for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize this year consists of 318 candidates including US President Donald Trump.

Alfred Nobel desired that The Nobel Peace Prize is an international award given to a nominee who is considered to have done some significant work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of enmity and for the holding and promotion of peace and harmony.

This year’s peace prize will be announced by The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday. Even before the announcement has been made for the award, the World Health Organization appears to be a possible contender. Experts assume that climate activist Greta Thunberg or press freedom groups can be other strong contenders.

The list for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize this year consists of 318 candidates. It is the fourth largest number in the history of the prize. Since last 50 years the names of the nominees are not revealed but the nominators reveal them to public after nominating them.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali was awarded the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize. He was conferred with the prestigious award “for his initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea”.

Greta Thunberg was bookies’ favorite to win the 2019 prize but the Ethiopian PM or a representative of the free press could be the more likely winner, according to the opinion of the experts.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is a possible contender for the Nobel Peace Prize award, in this year when the world is dominated by the coronavirus pandemic.

Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, for the second consecutive year.  The 17-year-old was nominated by the Swedish parliamentarians nominated the 17-year-old for this year’s award.

Jacinda Ardern

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has ranked one of the top three candidates for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize, according to the bookies.

She has been nominated for the PM’s response to the Christchurch mosque attacks in 2019 as well as her leadership towards eliminating Covid-19 in New Zealand.

US President Donald Trump has been nominated by two Scandinavian MPs; it is not clear whether he is a candidate this year.
