The safety of women in India is taken seriously neither by the government nor by the citizens. Thai woman raped by two men in Kerala’s Malappuram. Incidents of thai woman raped and murder have not only brought lots of shame for the country but also the image of our country has been affected globally and has been branded as an unsafe location for visitors.

The incident which took place last week once again proves how unsafe women are in India, be it citizens or visitors. The Police have arrested two men for allegedly raping the women. The woman from Bangkok, aged 46 years had recently come to Kerala to visit her child who was studying in a school in Malappuram and was staying in a hotel.

These kinds of incidents are very bad for the state like Kerala, as it depends on the tourism industry. Sources say that there were over eight lakh foreign tourists who had visited the state, till September 2019.

Kerala has a reputation as a foreign-tourist friendly location. Its reputation was affected in 2018 after Liga Skromane; a Thai women was raped and murdered by two men in Kovalam. The woman was in Kerala for Ayurvedic Cancer treatment had gone missing from the center after she stepped out. The whereabouts were not known for more than a month. Later the police found a headless body that was badly decomposed at a mangrove forest near Kovalam, which was identified as of Liga’s by the family.

Even before everyone could forget that incident, Wednesday’s incident came into light. It is high time that the Government at the center and the states take necessary steps for the safety for women in India, else our country which has volumes and volumes to speak about the greatness of our culture would lose its reputation and soon be labeled as a location unsafe for women.
