Maharshtra: 17 killed after crane collapses on Samruddhi Expressway in Thane

In a tragic incident, at least 17 people were reportedly killed after a crane collapses on Samruddhi Expressway in Thane, Maharashtra. The girder launching equipment is a special-purpose mobile gantry crane which was used in the construction of Samruddhi Expressway Phase III.

Soon after the disaster, two teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were dispatched to start rescue operations.

According to news reports, 17 dead have been found so far, three people have been injured, and three people are still missing: Assistant Commandant Sarang Kurve

The injured has been shifted to the nearest hospital for better treatment.

Thane: At least 17 workers were killed & 3 others were injured after a heavy-duty crane crashed on an under-construction girder of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway. The incident took place in the wee hours today in Thane’s Shahapur, Free Press Journal tweeted.

Pained by the tragic mishap in Shahapur, Maharashtra. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are injured. NDRF and local administration are working at the site of the mishap and all possible measures are being taken to ensure proper assistance to those affected.

An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF will be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM
