Doctor Edwin Gomes, the Head of Goa Medical Colleges, medicine department, who leads a team of doctors at the Margao-based ESI hospital for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, he hugs almost 190 patients at the time of their discharge in the last three months.
A warm send-off is given to the recovered patients of COVID-19 by hugging them. The doctor hugged them to send across a message to the society to accept these people and not banish them.
He returned home after 98 days of duty at the hospital. Dr Gomes said, that he hugged all the patients when they are discharged after testing negative.
The doctor said that in this way he was sending across a message to everybody not to reject these patients, whom he termed as “COVID angels”.
He also felt that their plasma can be of great use to treat other COVID-19 patients as they have the antibodies. He said that the patients who recovered patients are the best persons to share their health experience with others.
He remembers a patient, who helped other patients in the hospital after recovering from the infection. This patient helped other patients by feeding them, putting the bed pan. He worked like a nurse. He would answer, if some patient had a query.
