COVID-19 tested negative pregnant woman refused by apartment association to entry
A pregnant woman tests negative for Covid-19, she tried to return to her family, but the apartment association refused her entry, private hospitals deny treatment, a few days later child dies in mother’s womb.
This incident will surely make you shy away at the sickening mindset of an apparent association in Mangaluru. A woman who was 6 months pregnant wasn’t allowed to enter into the apartment complex despite her testing negative for Covid-19 a day after she was in quarantine.
The woman had returned from Dubai on May 12, she was quarantined at a hotel and as per the protocol the doctors conducted a test on the day of her arrival. The woman was elated as she could return to her family as her results showed negative.
Her joy was short-lived as the apartment association did not allow her into the apartment. When they heard that she had returned from Dubai, and that she was going to live in their apartment, the residents association of the apartment held a meeting and denied the woman entry claiming there was a possibility she could carry in the coronavirus.
Apartment association forced the pregnant woman to go back to institutional quarantine.
The association did not heed to any of the requests of the family, that she was tested negative and adamantly stuck to their decision of not allowing her into the apartments. But the problems didn’t end there, little did the woman know that she would be ostracized further.
“The apartment association that has educated people held a meeting – decided to allow her into the building only after a second test was negative & she was in quarantine for 14 days, we didn’t have an option,” Aziz Bastikar a relative of the woman said.
Private hospitals refuse to see woman, say come back after 14 days
The family tried to go to private hospitals, but they too turned down, giving similar excuses. The gynaecologists at various hospitals refused to see the expecting mother citing illogical reasons as the apartment association.
“After the apartment association turned us down, we thought we can get her check-up done & let her stay at a private hospital, we enquired at several hospitals & even at the unity hospital, the gynaecologists, however, refused to see her & said it would be possible only after she got a second test done for Covid-19 & it was negative,” the relative said
The woman was forcibly sent to the hotel where she was initially quarantined. But unfortunately, the health officials there weren’t too professional in their approach towards a pregnant lady and the care she needed. When her condition started to deteriorate, they managed to convince a private nursing home to see her.
Woman’s health deteriorates, doctors insist on premature delivery
The doctors realized that the condition of the mother and the unborn had worsened, hence had to go ahead with a premature delivery procedure, but couldn’t save the child. The mother was shocked to lose her first child.
Apartment continues ostracizing the woman
The woman is in a state of shock for having lost her child. She was tested again for Covid-19 but was refused entry again into the apartment by the association. The Mangalore corporation has now issued a notice to the apartment association members. Action may be taken against the private hospitals who refused treatment too.
